Friday, July 23, 2010

Issue:
South Branch Grants brook headwaters crossed by a forestry road. Metal culvert (1 m) covered by slabs of asphalt and wooden planks. There is a lot of creozote in the wood and asphalt debris in the brook. Some water runoff from the road.
Action Required:
Replace the wooden planks on the culvert with wood that does not contain creozote. Remove the asphalt slabs and stabilize the banks with clean crushed rock on top of a geotextile.

Update:
The bridge is still present and in the same condition as in 2010. Vegetation and débris clogged the culvert. They have been removed to let the water flow freely. A follow-up on the situation is recommended.
