Belledune 03

Thursday, July 28, 2011

Highway crosses the river with metal culvert. Culverts were made so they would slow the stream velocity to create a pond. Long time ago, NB Power expanded the width of the river to create a pond in order to have a big water supply for their industrial process. Crushed rocks were deposited on the stream banks (by NB Power) for erosion control. Light erosion and tree removal noted in area.

Action Required:

Visitors must be educated on importance of maintaining an adequate buffer zone in the region. Restore the buffer zone by planting shrubs or by letting nature take its course by leaving a strip of untouched vegetation along the stream. A ‘’No dumping’’ and ‘‘Information about the buffer zone’’ sign should be erected near the site.
