Sediments in water course

Collapsed ATV trail

Tributaire Belledune 02

Wednesday, August 3, 2011

ATV trail that was used to cross the brook with a wooden bridge. The bridge has now collapsed and has flowed downstream. The site is now completely eroded. Old channeling structure on the stream bed. The woody debris from the bridge are scattered near around site for about 200 m and causes obstruction to the water flow. Excessive erosion, tree removal and some waste noted in area.

Action Required:

The banks should be stabilized (with rip-rap rocks or with vegetation) in order to slow down erosion and reduce sedimentation in water course. A ‘‘Erosion protection’’ and/or ‘‘No dumping’’ sign should be erected near the site. Restore the buffer zone by planting shrubs or by letting nature take its course by leaving a strip of untouched vegetation along the shore. Clean up the debris and garbage that have accumulated in the watercourse.
