Petite rivière aux Ormes

Bridge on private property

Unstable bridge structure and erosion

Breakwater on left bank

Man-made dam
PR Ormes 11
Wednesday, August 11, 2010

Issue:
Private camping site for camping trailers with a clearing up to the river. Bridge with an unstable cage structure. If it collapses, a lot of sediments and debris would fall in the river. Some rip-rap rocks around the bridge. Very steep and eroded right bank with a trail that follows the bank. Long metal and wood breakwater along the left bank. Small man-made dam downstream.
Action Required:
The stream banks around the bridge should be stabilized in order to reduce sedimentation in the river. The bridge structure should be repaired before it collapses in the river. Landowner education on the importance of maintaining an adequate buffer zone on his property and the effects of a man-made dam on the watercourse.
Update
July 5 2017

Repaired bridge structure

New coverd bridge

Breakwater on left bank
Update:
The bridge was upgraded and rocks were placed to support the bank and reduce sediment input into the water. The artificial dam was no longer present.
