Comeau Stream

Culverts on dirt road

Erosion on side of road

Comeau 04

Thursday, July 23, 2009

Issue:

Two culverts, 94 cm et 126 cm, are installed upstream from a pool on a dirt road. Silt from dirt road washes down the slopes with the rain and enters the river. The sediments choke the substrate by filling in the spaces between gravel and cobble of the stream bed. This is bad for fish and benthic macro-invertebrates.

Action Required:

Banks should be stabilized close to the road. The stream follows the road upstream and the road is really eroded. Erosion prevention method should be taken.

Alteration negligible

Minor alteration. Must follow site

Alteration with possibility of impact

Alteration with impact. Recommended intervention.
